RDS = the Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio (in this case 2008 R3)
Run DSS Node first to get a DSS (Decentralized Software Service) running which the RDS needs to run. Follow the instructions in the Documentation

The top section, system services, are the services installed on the PC needed to run the RDS. The middle and last sections, developer resources & about Microsoft Robotics, links to theand various other pages.
Theseems to not be the best place to start. A whole bunch of stuff happens but it expects the robot to be connected rather than simulated so I'll need to get the basic RDS talking to Mindstorms first...
