Atlas ti Research Training
Atlas Two-Day Workshop, February 1st and 2nd. Room Q108, Quinn School School Belfield. Laptop required. Those interested in attending please contact Peadar Ó Scolaí to confirm your place. The aim of this session is to provide a thorough overview of ATLAS.ti 5 and to start planning for working on a real project. The session begins with demonstration and discussion of the main aspects of the software, providing an overview of its potential and an idea of its long-term usage.
The hands-on sessions ground participants in the basic tools and tasks which usually occupy them for some time in a real project. We encourage effective and flexible use of tools, whilst staying in control of the work you do in the software.
The course will suit those who have looked at or used ATLAS.ti to a limited extent, and those who are complete beginners. However you should already have some idea about what your approach to qualitative data will be. The course does not teach you ‘how to do’ qualitative data analysis per se, although we raise methodological and analytic issues in discussing projects.
Tasks covered: Familiarization with major attributes of the software. Assigning textual and multimedia data. Working at the textual level, exploring data. Marking - annotating - memoing - coding - basic retrieval
February 2nd: 10AM Q108: Day 2 Intermediate Session : Moving on with ATLAS.ti. This session will build on the work covered in Day 1 to think in more depth about the analytic tasks and begin to use the more sophisticated tools ATLAS.ti provides.
Tasks covered: Network tool - Query tool - Text searching - Autocoding – Output Object Explorer - Object Crawler Backing - up and moving projects
