The Quadrangular Conference in Technology, Organizations and Society 2009 is the third annual symposium organised jointly by the University of Cambridge, Lancaster University, University College Dublin and the London School of Economics

Scholars are invited to present preliminary research findings and/or challenging theoretical and methodological issues concerning their research. We welcome theoretically diverse papers encompassing, but not limited to, approaches that draw on Social Theory, Philosophy, Psychology, Public Policy, Cultural Studies and Political Thought. Research areas will cover a wide spectrum organisational and social challenges, such as:

  • Alternative theoretical and methodological approaches in the study of socio-technical phenomena
  • Critical approaches to organisational innovation
  • New technologies and perceptions of identity
  • Power and control in IT design, implementation and use
  • Technology policy discourse and ideology
  • Human agency, choice and organizational change
  • ICTs and citizen empowerment

Application areas may include healthcare, open-source, collaborative technologies, e-government or any other setting that presents interesting socio-technical phenomena. Contributions can take the form of:

  • Full Papers – for accomplished research results or advanced theoretical discussions (maximum 5,000 words).
  • Short Papers – For work in progress or preliminary theoretical thoughts (maximum 2,500 words).
  • Extended abstracts – For early stage research plans and reviews of pertinent literature (maximum 1,000 words)

Key Dates

April 27th, 2009 : Abstract submission deadline (up to 500 words excluding refs)

May 5th, 2009 : Notification of acceptance

May 20th, 2008 : Final submission deadline
