IFIP 8.6, University of Salford, UK, June 2007 from Jun 13, 2007 08:30 AM to Jun 16, 2007 03:40 PM Salford, Manchester, UK.,
Although significant progress has been made, aided by academic colloquia such as IFIP WG8.6, technological innovation continues to be problematic for many organisations, with the rate of failure of IS/IT projects remaining stubbornly high. It is clearly important to understand why some innovation efforts are successful while others fail – why the same technology that “diffuses” in one context meets only resistance and rejection in others! The aim of this conference is to help move forward our understanding of the organisational dynamics of technology-based innovation by diversifying the research agenda in three general areas: theoretical perspectives, methodologies, and organisational sectors. Paper submission deadline: 1st December 2006

Strategic Information Management. CITO Seminar Apr 27, 2006 from 03:00 PM to 04:45 PM Quinn School of Business, UCD, Belfield. Room Q201,
Strategic Information Management (SIM): A review of the literature. Dr Alexander Teubner and Dr Martin Mocker (University of Muenster, Germany) will give a joint research seminar on the topic of strategic information management. In the past an increasing number of IS topics have been discussed under the label ‘strategic’ by researchers from the IS discipline as well as from information and documentation science. Among them are Strategic Information Systems, Strategic Information Systems Planning, Strategic Alignment, IS/IT Strategy. A range of other topics have been claimed to have a ‘strategic’ impact (e.g. “the strategic intent of IT outsourcing”), not to forget the discussion on IT’s relation to competitive advantage. With our review of around 400 research articles (and another 130 books authored by practitioners, consultants and academics alike), our aim is to develop a research map of SIM by identifying areas of SIM that have been researched to date, their relationships but also less intensively researched areas. We would like to present and discuss our aims, approach as well as the first draft of such a SIM research map with other researchers interested in the field or parts of it.

UKAIS 2007 from Apr 11, 2007 08:10 AM to Apr 12, 2007 05:10 PM University of Manchester,
UKAIS conference is the premiere academic event in the Information Systems calendar within the UK and attracts leading academics and researchers from the UK and overseas. Despite over 20 years of work and research in IS, there still seems to be a lot of confusion as to the role of IS within the organisation and whether the two should be seen so separately. Should we be talking about IS strategy as separate from organisational strategy? How have organisations changed, what are people's expectations and lifestyles, and how has IS enabled more integrated thinking about IS as an enabler of change. In the 70's we had the organisation man, and in the 21st century we have the networked person! What are the implications for IS as a discipline, and the view of integrated IS in organisations, and where are we going to take this set of ideas next?
