Challenges for contemporary research on technology and organisation.

Post-Graduate Conference 2008 is the second annual triangular symposium organised jointly by Lancaster University, University of Cambridge and University College Dublin. The forum is co-chaired by Séamas Kelly, Lucas Introna and Matthew Jones; bringing three schools and research programmes together to debate in an intimate, relaxed and informal setting. This year’s event is hosted by the Centre for Innovation, Technology & Organisation at UCD School of Business.

Supported by the UCD School of Business Doctoral Studies Programme

Call for Papers

This call for papers invites scholars from IS and organizational studies to present preliminary research findings and/or challenging theoretical and methodological issues concerning their research. We expect presentations to be theoretically diverse encompassing Institutional Theory, Ethnomethodology, Phenomenology, Theories of Practice, Actor-Network Theory, and others. Research areas will cover a spectrum of settings and organisational challenges – for example, developing countries, health care, business ethics, environmental issues, software development, IS implementation and adoption, and E-government.

We encourage scholars to reflect on the development of their research, its practicalities, methods and animation.

  • How do we as researchers participate and interact with the subjects under scrutiny?
  • How do we assemble a reality or a story (not just represent what we see) in interaction with different texts, theories and people?

We hope in this way to debate interesting and unorthodox ideas in discussion panels and presentations of our research.

Those interested in taking part should prepare an extended abstract (~500 words not counting references) by Friday, 11 April 2008. Notice of acceptance will be sent by Thursday, 24 April 2008. The symposium will be held over two days, Thursday & Friday, 5-6 June 2008, at University College Dublin, Ireland. A modest registration fee will be charged to cover the reception, 1 evening meal, 2 light lunches and refreshments.

This year’s organising committee is Simeon Vidolov, Peadar O’Scolai, Raoni Guerra Lucas Rajão, Isam Faik, and Allen Higgins. Contact simeon.vidolov@ucd.ie for further information and visit the symposium website for more detail and updates, http://mis.ucd.ie/triangular2008.

Publication

Edited papers (e.g. ~1500 words or greater) are eligible for inclusion in the proceedings, a special edition of the CITO working papers series titled: “Heterogeneities, multiplicities and complexities – towards subtler understandings of links between technology, organisation and society” ISBN 978-1-905254-30-9, expected date of publication August 2008.
