Understanding the processes by which practices become routinely embedded in everyday life is a long-standing concern of sociology and the other social sciences... how and why things become, or don’t become, routine and normal components of everyday work.
Carl May and Tracy Finch have studied the ways that "interaction processes are embedded in, and represent, their socio-technical contexts". The authors propose an approach termed Normalization Process Theory as a framework for tracing processes involved in embedding routinized practice in organisations and groups. In particular how technology embedding is normalized, accepted, rejected in medical care giving settings.
